Essure Is Certain to Fail At One Point Or Another

Removing Essure from the market will not alleviate an Essure woman's pain and suffering

Tuesday, September 18, 2018 - Bayer, the maker of the Essure birth control device, intends to remove it from the market by the end of 2018 and may reintroduce a new and improved version in the future, according to rumors. The company is removing Essure because it is no longer a viable economic model. Essure sales have fallen by 70% since the FDA implemented stricter regulations on Essure doctors. Close to 1 million women have chosen Essure since the FDA approved the device more than a decade ago. Doctors, many of whom are on the Essure payroll, recommended the device for its effectiveness and ease of use. Essure doctors did little if anything to warn potential patients of its deadly side effects. Recalling Essure will do nothing to help the hundreds of thousands of women who already use the device and most likely face the consequences of the device's failure in the future.

Essure removal is a complicated surgical procedure requiring a patient to be admitted to the hospital. The birth control device's removal often entails undergoing a hysterectomy which is performed under general anesthesia. Essure women are left with both physical and physiological scars, sterile, and unable to have children. Essure was marketed for years for its ease in implanting and removal when a woman wanted to become pregnant.

Essure removal doctors are hard to find. If an Essure woman is suffering from problems she will usually contact her gynecologist to remove the device. Women are shocked when their gynecologist tells them that Essure could not possibly be responsible for her symptoms. Most Essure doctors are not qualified or trained to remove Essure. Doctors fear lawsuits if they refer their patient to another doctor. Few doctors have ever attempted to remove Essure. If a woman is fortunate to find an Essure removal doctor, they often must travel thousands of miles at their own expense to have the surgery to remove the device.

Essure removal usually entails medical complications. Essure can break free from its intended placement at the opening of the Fallopian tubes and travel to other parts of a woman's reproductive system. If Essure punctures the ovaries, it can cause extreme pain and bleeding. When this occurs, surgeons usually recommend a hysterectomy to remove the damaged organs.

Essure is likely to fail at some point in a young woman's life and require removal. A woman may be better off choosing other forms of birth control, to begin with, rather than go through debilitating pain and a lifetime of suffering. For decades tubal ligation and hysterectomy have been proven to be safe, effective forms of birth control. Women who seek a temporary form of birth control should consider condoms, a diaphragm, or birth control pills.
