Essure Warnings Spreading Throughout the World

More and more countries are limiting, restricting, or outright banning the sale of Essure

Monday, June 25, 2018 - The Essure birth control device has been voluntarily pulled from the Canadian market according to its maker Bayer, due to a lack of sales. The device has previously been banned in Brazil, Finland, and the UK. Thousands of women from in the United States have hired Essure lawyers and filed claims against the company citing the device's adverse side effects that they were not made aware of. In May of 2016, Health Canada determined that patients were not being adequately informed of Essure's potentially devastating side effects such as unwanted pregnancy, abnormal monthly bleeding, and allergic and autoimmune reactions to the metal used in the device. Thousands of women who can no longer live with Essure's symptoms have attempted to have the device removed but can not find a physician willing to do the surgery. Essure often breaks free from the inner walls of the fallopian tubes and can move to other reproductive organs, puncture them, cause infection and require their removal along with the device. More often than not, those suffering from Essure symptoms and desiring to have the device removed are required to undergo a radical hysterectomy, completely, irreversibly, and permanently removing their reproductive system, and the exact surgery they wanted to avoid in the first place. Although Bayer now admits that Essure is "permanent" birth control, hundreds of thousands of women had been told by the company and their gynecologists that a feature of Essure was that it could be easily removed when the time came that they wanted to have a child. Essure has been forced to print a "black box" warning label on the product. A black box warning is reserved for medical devices that have the potential to cause serious injury and even death.

Today, Essure patients and doctors are required to fill out and sign a questionnaire intended to serve as a warning of the adverse side effects of the controversial birth control device. Perhaps a more effective tool to alert women would be to require them to join the Facebook group "Essure Problems" where over 37,000 real women post details of their nightmarish Essure experiences. Joining the Essure group is subject to approval and most members are themselves Essure victims.

Essure is a one-inch flexible coil, resembling the spring from a retractable ballpoint pen, that is inserted into a woman's Fallopian tubes, one for each side. It is made from nickel and titanium and thousands of women have complained of allergic reactions to the metal. Women are advised not to have sex for three-months after implanting Essure as this gives time for scar tissue to develop and hold the Essure coil in place and create a barrier that prevents contraception. Essure can be inserted in the comfort and convenience of a doctor's office and most women are released in an hour or two. Some physicians may be unwilling to fully explain the adverse side effects that you may experience for fear of losing their patient to another doctor. If you are one of the tens of thousands of woman that are having Essure adverse side effects you may want to talk to an experienced Essure lawyer and see if you have a claim against Bayer for bringing a faulty medical device to market.
