Women Organize To Alert Others of the Dangers of Essure Birth Control

Women who have suffered the unexpected adverse side effects of the Essure birth control device are taking measures to warn others

Tuesday, November 28, 2017 - The object of most women organizing in social media is to fight to have the Essure birth control device removed from the US market in the same fashion as it has been taken off of the market in all other countries. Thousands of women have written about their negative experiences using the device and want to warn other women not to use the popular birth control device. Doctors in the US continue to advise patients to use Essure and tell them that the device is a safe and effective method of birth control. Women wanting to take birth control measures are told that implantation of the Essure device is non-surgical and can be done in the convenience of the doctor's office without requiring a hospital visit or stay. The problem is that when a patient's pain and suffering reach an unbearable level, women opting to have the device removed often find that scar tissue has encased the coil making its simple, easy removal impossible. It is then that surgery and a hospital stay are required. Removal of the device entails an emergency, radical and expensive hysterectomy which carries with it all of the health risks, inconvenience, and permanent sterilization that the Essure device was intended to replace. A hysterectomy is the complete surgical removal of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and surrounding tissues.

The FDA is urging physicians to warn women of the potential for adverse side effects that using the Essure birth control device entails. A black box warning, used on products and devices that can be life-threatening, has been forced upon Bayer to include on all packaging of Essure. Essure.com also contains a front page warning that states patients have reported the Essure device causing perforation of the uterus and fallopian tubes, migration of the device to the abdominal and pelvic cavities, persistent, non-stop pain, and allergic reactions presumably to the Nickel alloy plating on the device. The warning goes on to say that should women wish to have the device removed in an attempt to alleviate their pain, they could face necessary surgery.

As a result of the severe damage to their health from the Essure device, thousands of women are suing Bayer and their doctors for reimbursement of medical expenses, lost wages, and the pain and suffering they have had to endure. The women hope that their settlement will draw sufficient media attention to force Bayer to take Essure off the US market. Complications from Essure include allergic reactions, abdominal pain, extreme monthly bleeding, perforation of the fallopian tubes and surgery to remove the device. As of January 2017, Bayer financial statements show the company had 3,700 Essure side effects lawsuits.
