Gynecologists Push Essure Over Proven Conventional Birth Control Procedures

A 22-year old woman was implanted with Essure birth control device against her will and for the next 12 years thought that she had had a tubal ligation

Monday, April 1, 2019 - One of the more memorable yet shocking Essure horror stories that I have read lately was reported by Drugwatch.com and deals with a 22-year old woman that thought she had had a tubal ligation but instead found out years later, that she was implanted with Essure. After having children the young women told her doctors that she was finished having children for the time being, but might want to resume building her family in the near future or later in life. She told her doctor that she had read up on tubal ligation and thought that the procedure would meet her needs. The Fallopian tubes are pliable enough to be cut, tied, and reattached several times without problems and the procedure is 100% effective and millions of women had had their "tubes tied" in the past. In spite of the patient's persistence, the doctor kept insisting that Essure was a better option and that it was safer and more effective. The patient continued to object but signed papers she believed were for tubal ligation surgery. Instead, the doctor implanted her with Essure against her express wishes. Immediately after having what she Amanda was tubal ligation surgery but instead was Essure implantation, the woman started feeling "pelvic pain and having irregular menstrual cycles, back pain, fatigue, rashes, swelling, and migraines started. She also became depressed," according to Drugwatch.com. She continued to have problems such as "painful sex, pelvic pain, depression, migraines, and muscle and joint pain" from 2003 until 2015.

Amanda C. has had so many adverse Essure symptoms requiring being rushed to the emergency room that she got to know doctors and nurses at the hospital on a first name basis. Amanda has complained about the pain Essure was causing to the degree that family and friends had labeled her a hypochondriac. Amanda is unable to get out of bed on some days, in constant pain, unable to hold down a steady job nor be the type of mother she wants to be to her children.

One of the more memorable "Essure problems" days occurred when she felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her uterus followed by excessive bleeding. A 911 call brought an ambulance to take her to the hospital where she found out that she was pregnant with a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy, where the fetus attaches to the Fallopian tubes and not the uterus. The treatment for Ectopic pregnancies is abortion as the Fallopian tubes are not large nor strong enough to support the demands of a developing baby. The women not only found out that she was pregnant, and the baby wouldn't survive but also found out for the first time that she could never again have a child. The women described her Essure feelings at the time by saying, "I didn't know if I should cry over losing the baby or cry because I had been sterilized at 23... I felt betrayed, violated."
