Netflix Documentary Slams The Essure Birth Control Device

The Netflix Documentary “The Bleeding Edge" showcases Essure's adverse side effects and is "must-see-tv" for every Essure patient

Monday, August 6, 2018 - Every woman using the Essure birth control device is encouraged to watch the Netflix documentary entitled "The Bleeding Edge." The film takes a critical look at the adverse side effects that various drugs and medical devices can cause and includes a segment on the Essure Birth Control device manufactured by Bayer Inc. The film has been released and coincides with Bayer's recent announcement that it will be voluntarily withdrawing Essure from the US market at the end of the year due to what the company claims are economic factors caused by false claims about the product's side effects. Bayer claims that the film's depiction of Essure lacks credibility, is inaccurate, and misleading largely because it "ignored scientific evidence finding that Essure's benefits outweigh its risks." Try telling that to an Essure patient that has experienced the adverse side effects caused by Essure.

Bayer's logic in claiming that Essure's benefits outweigh its risks is hard to take seriously. Tens of thousands of women who are actual Essure patients, members of the Facebook group "Essure Problems" have documented how their lives have been ruined by using Essure. Over 300 fetal deaths have been reported to the FDA as well as thousands of adverse event reports. Here are just a few of the problems that Essure women report:

1. Device Migration - Essure is intended to attach to the Fallopian Tubes, inflame them to the point that scar tissue develops and block fertilization. Instead, Essure sometimes either breaks apart due to the body attacking the foreign object, or otherwise detaches and travels to other parts of a woman's reproductive system, perforating them and requiring a hysterectomy for removal. Hysterectomy or tubal ligation is so common with Essure removal that the device that was once marketed as "reversible" is now represented as "permanent sterilization."

2. Auto-immune and Allergic Reaction - Essure contains a significant metal amount of the element Nickel. Essure women report allergic symptoms including full-body rashes from the metal. Another symptom is a compromised immune system and continuous flu-like symptoms.

3. Other ongoing Essure problems are longer and much heavier periods, unbearable cramping and bloating, backaches requiring bed rest, migraine headaches as well as severe internal infection.

Yet another Essure complication is being able to find a doctor that is willing to attempt Essure removal. Since Essure attaches to the Fallopian tube or to other female reproductive organs to which it has migrated, a complete hysterectomy is usually required. Women lucky enough to be able to have Essure removed say that the symptoms they were suffering from have abated. Nearly all Essure women are left permanently sterile whether that was their intention or not and feel that if they were informed of Essure's problems in the first place, would have chosen another method of birth control.
